Budgeting for disasters

Many PREPPERS take the time to create a disaster budget that can help them through difficult periods or in the event of an emergency.  A disaster budget could be some money that you keep along with all of your supplies so that you can get through in the event of an emergency.

One of the best ways that you can budget for disaster and make sure that your cache survives a natural disaster is by buying a good fireproof safe or even a gun safe.  While some preppers will keep money in a safety deposit box this still can be difficult to access,  especially any serious natural disaster.

Having multiple options is good however,  so you may want to consider budgeting and keeping a little bit of cash aside outside of your home or in a safety deposit box, or in a trusted friend or relative's house where you can easily access it. In the event of an emergency where electronics have been disabled or you don't have access to an ATM,  you could have difficulty accessing your money or even gaining money through your bank or credit union.

This is why keeping physical assets and money somewhere in your home can benefit you largely in the event of a serious emergency.

Pick a safe hiding space and budget aside a little bit of money that you can use in the event of one of these emergencies.  If you are already preparing yourself with the use of food and supplies consider buying a safe and putting a bit of extra cash aside in this area of your house as well.

Make sure to store any bills that you may have in some type of plastic bag even inside a safe so that no moisture can get to them and ruin the bills. This can give you a nice cache of spare funds that you can use in the event of an emergency if you can't find access to your bank or ATM right away.

This emergency fund is extremely useful if the power goes out or if you need extra cash right away. Remember to only use this budgeted disaster fund in the event of a real emergency and to replace any cash that you take from it as quickly as you can so that you are always prepared.

Part of being a serious Prepper is thinking about every situation and having a solution to survive. Budgeting and keeping a bit of money on hand for an emergency is a great example of how you can survive a disaster situation more comfortably.
