Food Storage for Those Who Lack Space

Many Preppers know just how important food storage is to preparedness and to fully committing to preparing for any disaster. The problem with food storage as well as for some who are working with a small space, is that they may not have all of the space that's required to keep a lot of food stores on hand at once. Saving space and coming up with a way that you can keep food stores even in a small space could mean surviving in the event of a disaster later on. Here are some of the best strategies that you can use for food storage even in a small space like a bachelor apartment or a small home.

1. Dehydrate and vacuum seal as much food as possible: if there is a way that you can make your food stores smaller take advantage of all of the technology at your disposal. It can be very difficult to store a lot of canned goods for large food items in a small space so if you can vacuum seal them in to a tighter space and ensure that everything will keep from perishing, you can fit much more into a small space.

2. Use storage bins when necessary: storage bins can be placed inside your cupboards, underneath the table or even be used alongside furniture. Purchasing a large storage container or a garbage can and incorporating it into your decor by disguising it as furniture or covering it will unlock some of the extra space that you may not have thought to consider. You can store all of your non-perishable food out in the open without having to worry about having a specific room or closet dedicated to food storage.

3. Shelving is very useful: a couple of good shelves in your hallway or in an area that you don't often use, can allow you to very quickly fill up a small space and keep a lot of food close at hand. Most preppers will you shelving units in order to house all of their kits and to keep all of their equipment close in the event of an emergency. Investing in some sturdy shelving can allow you to store everything you need in a neat and organized fashion so that you can have it at the ready as well as take an inventory to see if there's anything that you may potentially need.
